Software Developer (Web/Full Stack)

Join our Team to Make Government Decisions Better

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The software development team is responsible for development of our application - a combination of a task manager and a collaboration tool, built for the particular needs of public servants and government departments - and managing and supporting our various deployments. See a demo of our application here.

The development team is a small team within a growing company. We collaborate closely with a wide variety of business functions; we work with:

  • our product and sales teams to define the next product features and iterations

  • our customer success team to debug and address issues experienced in production

  • our implementation team to configure new application instances for our new customers

  • the rest of the development team to fulfill the above with consistency and according to engineering best practices

You’ll write code in Ruby on Rails, Vue.js and wrangle deployments with Postgres, Docker and Amazon Web Services.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Above all, we look for great people. For us, that means people who

  • are hard-working self-starters

  • approach the world with curiosity and a growth-mindset

  • value empathy from and show empathy to their team-members

  • aspire to excellence as collaborators

  • crave to make impact to social good

We value proven experience designing, developing and shipping software for the web. Our codebase is built with Ruby on Rails, Vue.js and deployed with Postgres, Docker and Amazon Web Services; familiarity with these particular technologies is an asset though not specifically required. Bonus points for knowledge of or affinity to event sourcing, enterprise systems, asynchronous architectures, and maintainability.

We look for software developers who define success in terms of user happiness. It’s easy to get lost navigating concerns of software purity, or hunting for intellectually meaty puzzles. There is, however, an unavoidable amount of unglamorous work that are essential to serving our users (e.g. wrangling deployments and handling edge cases on finicky user interfaces). We want folks who cheerfully plow through these issues in the charge to rapidly deliver powerful value to our users.
